Yoga for Stress Relief: 7 Gentle Practices for Overwhelming Days
Seven slow, beginner-friendly practices you can do on the floor, in a chair or in bed when your day has been too much.
Yoga for beginners
Easyyogaguide is for people who'd like the good parts of yoga (easier breathing, looser hips, a calmer evening) without first becoming flexible, sporty or fluent in Sanskrit.
We write short routines you can do beside the bed, give a simpler version of every pose, and tell you plainly when to stop. Yoga doesn't have to be difficult to be useful. That's the whole idea, and it's the test every page here has to pass.

Section 01
Simple yoga poses explained one at a time, with a difficulty label, a breathing cue and a "Stop if" note on every card. We start with the ones you can do in ordinary clothes on an ordinary floor: child's pose, cat-cow, mountain pose. Sanskrit names always come with a plain-English translation.

Slow sequences for tired bodies, stiff mornings and anyone who found their last class too fast. Gentle yoga isn't a lesser version of the real thing. For a lot of beginners, it's the version they keep doing.

Routines built for the space you actually have: a strip of carpet, a bedroom floor, a chair at the kitchen table. You won't need a studio, a mirror or an expensive mat to follow them.

Breathing practices, restful poses and short routines for days that feel like too much. We're clear about what yoga can help with, and about when a doctor, counsellor or other professional is the better call.

Easy stretching routines for hamstrings, hips, shoulders and the neck you've been holding still at your laptop all day. Comfort and steady breathing matter more here than how far you reach.

Mobility means moving your joints comfortably through the range you have, then gently adding to it. Think shoulder circles before work and hip openers after a long drive, not the splits.

Each guide on this site is checked against the same short list before it goes up. Is this right for a beginner? Can the pose be modified? Can you breathe comfortably in it? What should make you stop? If a routine can't answer all four, it doesn't get published.
You'll also notice what we leave out: no weight-loss promises, no advanced poses presented as the goal, and no suggestion that yoga replaces a doctor, a therapist or any other professional help. Read more about how Easyyogaguide works, or meet Sophie Bennett, who writes our guides.
You don't need to be flexible, fit or young to start. Pick short, gentle routines, use props like pillows or a chair freely, and move only as far as you can while breathing easily. If you're pregnant, recovering from an injury, or have a heart condition or other health concern, check with a doctor or physiotherapist first.
Starting yoga at home can cost nothing: a towel or rug and a free online video are enough. A basic mat and a couple of blocks are the most common first purchases. Studio class and membership prices vary widely between countries and cities, so check local studios directly and ask about beginner or trial rates.
